In 2009, Associated Skin Care Professionals (ASCP) brought skin care educators together to form the Skin Care Schools Council, an exciting initiative to help raise the profile of skin care education and advance the cause of skin care schools across the nation. The Council has been developed as a joint effort with the American Association of Cosmetology Schools (AACS). ASCP continues to provide organizational and administrative assistance, as well as coordinating communication. By joining this effort, you can expand your ability to network, share ideas, gain a voice in state and federal legislation, and work with others dedicated to elevating the skin care profession.

Mission Statement
We seek to elevate the skin care industry by strengthening its education sector and developing a respected, robust voice for the viewpoints of skin care educators. Wherever possible, we desire to advance those aims collaboratively with other industry professionals.

Structure and Leadership
Meeting participants voted to limit leadership to skin care school owners, directors, or other school representatives. Other industry partners will be allowed to attend Council meetings and serve on committees in a nonvoting capacity only.

Leaders will represent the interests of general Council membership, and will be responsible for participating in teleconference meetings to plan, execute, and lead future Council meeting agendas. They may also be called upon to assist with other AACS functions, such as education agenda suggestions and/or direction.

AACS Committee Service
The Council identified six AACS “Tactical Teams” for which skin care school representation is deemed essential. We welcome volunteers for service (PDF). The time commitment for team service will probably include attending one AACS conference per year and participating in monthly conference calls. Tactical Teams:

• Accreditation
• Annual Convention
• Cosmetology Educators of America (CEA)
• Government relations (federal)
• Membership
• State relations

Upcoming Meetings
The ASCP Skin Care Schools Council's most recent meeting was at the AACS Annual Convention in November 2011, in Phoenix, Arizona. Two workshops at the convention were devoted to skin care school owners, and were very well attended, along with a dinner discussion for school owners, directors, and managers. Dates for meetings and other activities in 2012 will be added to this page as soon as they are confirmed.
