How to Optimize Your IG Bio as an Esty

Optimizing your Instagram bio is a simple but powerful way to market your skin care or beauty business on social media. It only takes a few minutes of your time, and doing so will have a lasting impact for as long as your business and Instagram account are active.

An Instagram bio is the perfect example of marketing that’s small but mighty. Think of your bio as your business’s elevator pitch, your storefront sign, and your booking link all in one. It’s the first thing people see when visiting your profile. And because of that, it should help them know exactly who you are, what you offer, and what they should do.

Be Clear, Not Cute

As tempting as it may be to use fun wordplay or a lot of emojis in your bio, it may make it more confusing for visitors to get an accurate sense of who you are what you offer. At the end of the day, you want to drive as many people as possible to book a service.

Include your business name or your name, your credentials or specialties, and your contact info, website, or booking link. Instead of writing, “In the business of making skin shine,” it’s probably more effective to write your business name, like ABC Esthetics.

Make Your Bio SEO Friendly

You don’t need to be an expert in search engine optimization (SEO) or marketing, but one thing you should definitely know about Instagram bios is that both your username and the display name on your profile are searchable. So, when you’re filling in the name field in your Instagram bio, add keywords like your title or specialty. The same applies to your username, which can be as simple as your name plus the business name, or your name plus your area of expertise, or your credentials and your city. Examples include Jesse’s Facial Bar, Jesse Acne Specialist, or Jesse Denver Esty.

Include a Clear Call to Action

Now that your bio is SEO friendly and you have a stream of traffic, the next step is to add a call to action. This is a short word or phrase that clearly directs people to do something. Phrases like “book now,” “text me,” and “see services” are all clear calls to action that tell profile visitors to click your link or contact information. Emojis or line breaks can be useful here in guiding visitors’ eyes to a link. For example, you can include a downward arrow emoji with your call to action.  “Book your free consult ⬇️” indicates where and why to click.
