The Power of Social Media for Your Skin Care Brand

If your social media strategy is subpar or even nonexistent, it is time you look at the power of what social media can do for you. Social media is key to business growth, and if you are not connected, now is the time. Don’t get left behind—learn why your why is key.

1. Know your why.

Have a purpose and set intentions. Some skin care professionals have a social media presence to help reinforce the client experience they provide and drive a client following, while others have social media accounts to connect with other estheticians to help bolster their reputation. Licensed professionals also use platforms to share their knowledge—how-to demos, trending topics, and ingredient guides. There are also some platforms used to connect with clients and and share before-and-after pics. Questions you can ask yourself to figure out your why may be:

  • What am I good at?
  • What skin care service do I book the most?
  • What is the newest treatment on my menu?

For example, if you are amazing at brow lamination and brow shaping, that’s a great way to start sharing your knowledge on social media.

2. Share only your why.

Social media is a great way to generate a following because people see value in what you are sharing and why. It’s content that’s educational and it has peaked your follower’s interest. When you start sharing topics or ideas that do not target your audience, you are likely to lose followers.

3. Build an audience that appreciates your why. woman looks at iphone

Garnering a huge following of random people is pointless; they will never fulfil your why. When you have a social media community of people who appreciate your why, they become your tribe. Build this audience by sharing only the content that supports your why and using strategic hashtags to represent the content so your tribe can find it. Consider reaching out to your IRL (in real life) network and ask them to help share your content and cross-promote. Don’t just wait for your social network to grow. Get in there and engage, look around, comment, and make your presence known.

4. Create a strong emotional connection to your why.

If your social media presence is nothing but smoke and mirrors, people will see through it. Let people get to know the real you to establish a true connection. Many top social media influencers will keep their website clean and professional but share additional insights into their life through Instagram or Facebook stories. Dig deep; you have insights and stories too! Consumers can get a facial anywhere, but what is the story behind you and yours? That is something your client will repeat and refer their friends to, especially when it coincides with the lifestyle they want to have.

5. Fulfil your why.

Always remember your why. Only after you’ve established why you have a social media presence, posted only content that supports that why, attracted your tribe, and built a genuine connection with them—only then can you expect your social media following to give you business.

With a focus on your authentic why and a lot of persistence, you can make social media work for you.
